We hope your Spring/Summer is swell and that you’re loving your home too. This time of year becomes busy with people looking to make a move in the summer months, in between school years. With that in mind, we read an interesting article earlier this year, and it reaches interestingly into the lives of many dfw folks. The idea is that many are considering living (or turning into living spaces) the refurbished spaces of many physical stores closing.
The amount of retail space closing in 2018 is on pace to break a record!
Maybe you felt that trend reaching you, like we did, with the closing of all Toys R Us stores. :(
Of course, with online shopping trends and choices, it makes so much sense that our markets would be (sometimes slowly) responding. And so some large spaces are being turned into open commercial space, with co-working spaces alongside coffee shops being one transition of a warehouses space. Then, developers are coming alongside this work and creating living spaces that can function like small communities, almost a sense of “co-housing,” as retail shops and cafes become part of the aesthetic of living in a building. Converted warehouse space like this usually has plenty of floor space, high ceilings and some unique architectural quirks that can make it interesting!
Some well-known spots like this in our area are in Dallas, and specifically some of the www.deepellum-lofts.com: “Futura” and “Elm St. Lofts” are two to mention.
